One Of Life's...

...simple pleasures...

WARNING!  "Men Only" Alert!

(Ladies, you can take a peek, but you don't understand us anyway and what's next ain't gonna help...)

About once a month or so I have to sharpen my straight razor...a simple process with a whetstone that takes all of 15 minutes.
Once completed, that first shave with my newly sharpened razor is a delight...it yields a clean smooth shave that's hard to beat.

(We now rejoin our regularly scheduled multi-lateral blog entry already in progress...)

I'm hoping the lake effect snow machine is laying off shifts in preparation for a mid winter shutdown soon...heard 23% of Lake Michigan is now ice which should help...and for once it's not snowing as I sit here tippy tapping away on my little keyboard...

This weekend I spent a few hours putting the finishing touches on our de-Christmasing project...most of that was accomplished by Karen, but my aluminum tree was still standing in our living room...
...so I disassembled that...boxed it up along with it's tree-turner stand, skirt, jingle bell ornaments and color wheel.  See ya in 11 months my friend...

Also trudged through the snow and took down the manger scene out front...Santa and his reindeer were removed from the rooftop a week ago...and unplugged Mr Snowman, the candy canes and the Christmas tree out front...so now we just have the lights on the bushes and trees, with the two deer in the middle by the fountain...festive, but not Christmassy...we'll leave those on at night during the winter, just to brighten things up a bit.

And then we started rearranging furniture, mostly in the TV room...
...moved the TV against one wall, so no longer blocking the big windows...much better.

...and though just a minor tweak, I swapped phones...that's my 19-teens candlestick phone...
...yes, it works...moved my 1927 Western Electric to a display shelf in the living room by the fireplace now.
...that's a sketch of my dear Aunt Velma and her beloved hound Belvedere on the mantel, circa 1940.

And we moved an art deco display case from the TV room into the dining room area...
Karen's mom had a basic "cameo rose" china set from the Hall company when Karen was growing up...they were going to sell it to a disreputable scoundrel (my editorial opinion) for dirt cheap right after Karen and I got married, so we priced it out and gave them actual market value for her set instead (about twice what the rat was going to pay them).

I then worked with a reputable antique dealer who was knowledgeable about Hall china and especially the cameo rose line, and we completed her mom's set.

Karen had that displayed in our home in Wyoming, and is going to create a display for the art deco cabinet pictured above...should be stunning when completed.

We capped our day watching movies...Bewitched, with Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell...
...one of the few Will Ferrell movies I can tolerate...mostly I think he's an ignorant jackass but Nicole Kidman saves the day in this one...did not get great reviews but it was fun, especially with Steve Carell as Uncle Arthur, a part played hilariously by Paul Lynde in the original TV series.

The capper was the all time great - surely one of the best movies ever made - Casablanca...
...if you don't like this one, shame on you...time to go back to "good taste school" and this time, pay attention and learn something.
The plane to Lisbon...classic...

The day beckons, so...

later, mcm fans...
