Preparations Continue...

...for All Hallows E'en...we were going to wait til next weekend...really...but it was such a nice day we figured we should take advantage of the good weather while we've got it.

A night time view...
a happy pumpkin patch...
...and a gaggle of giddy ghosts...
...and inside our courtyard...
...which is where the trick or treaters will be coming for their treats this year.

Believe it or not, that was Karen's idea...we've got more to do but this was a pretty good start.

And continuing in the spirit of the season, Karen and I watched the original 1931 Frankenstein last night...
Karen had never seen it before and it helped her "get" some of the gags in the Young Frankenstein movie made by Mel Brooks back in the 70's.

I'll probably watch a few more...The Wolfman, The Mummy, Dracula...but probably can't coerce Karen into sitting through those classics.

Had one day during this past week that was forecast to be sunny and low 50's, so I took the afternoon off to hit the links...
...no, I did not travel internationally to play 9, just kinda like that vintage ad.

Went to my usual haunt and played very well...parred both par 3 holes and actually birdied the par 4 #7, notable mainly bc 1) I rarely card a birdie and 2) #7 has a significant water hazard.

Seldom happens but this time it did...tee shot of 175 yards right down the center of the fairway, then hit a solid mashie onto the green...20 feet away but even with the pin.

Every green slopes on this course so I had to angle above the hole and hope for it to come back down...which, in a stunning real world proof that miracles do still happen, I gauged exactly right...ball dropped in the center of the cup for a birdie.

Naturally I tipped my cap to the non-existent crowd...
...with apologies to Tom Watson...
...and casually sauntered off the green as if that was a typical hole for me.

Sadly I've heard "my" course is closing...sold to a contractor who will turn it into a neighborhood...so I'm on the hunt for somewhere else to inflict my particular brand of golfing incompetence...checked out The Links at Rolling Meadows...
...a short 9 hole par 3 course not far from where I live...but two of the holes are within a circle of condos, which makes me wonder who's responsible for broken windows??
1st hole
9th hole
Gotta believe - unless only pros play there - that an occasional hook or slice does some damage now and then.

Not to mention being on stage for both of those holes...not sure I'm up for the scrutiny of my questionable golf skills.

Slowed down a bit on Papa's Model T: The Amateur...
...got bogged down in some research of coal mining and farming in the 20's in Pennsylvania, but I think I'm ready to get back at it...hope to be at 14,000 or 15,000 words by Sunday night.

Didn't have a dog in this hunt, but I guess it's hail to the victors today...
...go Michigan?

Meh...whatever...

later, mcm fans...
