Veteran's Day... right around the corner...when we honor all who serve...including of course my favorite veteran.

Thank you for your service, Benjamin.

Was listening to Ray Charles' rendition of "America the Beautiful"...
...the other day, and I love how he starts his version with the 3rd verse:

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America, America!
May God thy gold refine
Til all success
Be nobleness
And every gain Divine!

Think about that..."who more than self, their country loved...and mercy more than life..."

We are a blessed nation to have so many who have put love of country ahead of self, and love of mercy above even life itself.

Without them and their willingness to sacrifice we would not be here today, enjoying our God given rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Thank you veterans everywhere for your service!  God bless you and yours!
Well it seems evident the beautiful part of the fall season has raced away down the road of our past...
...leaving us with just the cold, wet, gray parts of fall dead ahead on the path to our future...
...can we please go back to the former and skip the latter?

There are still some gloriously beautiful trees holding onto their color...
...but as you can see they're standing guard right next to those that have been stripped bare by the merciless forward march of time...

As the colder weather arrives, our usually skittish squirrels are getting a little braver in their search for sustenance...
...this bold little bugger actually climbs into the sack of deer corn and then perches on the bag while he munches his contraband right outside our living room windows no less.  Da noive o' dose little rodents...

And this is the view out my office window today...
...ah, a lovely winterscape to fill the soul with wonder...O Summ'r!  To whither has't thee did flee??

Well the midterm elections have (finally!) come and gone and as we deal with the new political realities they've engendered I am reminded of something the great John Adams -
- founding father, 1st Vice President, 2nd President, and who quite appropriately passed on Independence Day of 1826 - said lo, these many years ago:

"One useless man is a shame; two is a law firm; and three or more is a Congress."

Perhaps even more appropriate, considering the times in which we live, is this telling sentiment he once penned:

"Our constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate for any other."

An example...
