Don't Look Now...

...but it's August!

It's not quite time for Summer to pack her bags and head to the station yet...
...but Autumn is definitely warming up in the bullpen.

So...whatever you've been putting off for this summer season, it's time to get after it NOW.

Golf, swim, fish, hike, travel, read, write, beach it, bike it, canoe it, kayak it...however you enjoy the gorgeous summer weather...get out there and do it!

Before it's...
And in the spirit of getting it done, I trekked to the links on this beautiful summer morning and enjoyed a Sasquatch-free round of 9...
....tried my best to soak up the beauty and serenity of my early morning stroll through the country, and along the way played pretty well.
Hit my mashie and mashie-niblick with something approaching competence...
...and had my chances to 1 putt for par more times than not.
Calamity Jane and I had been squabbling the last few rounds, so I went back to my Kempshall putter from a couple of  years ago.

It's a different length, weight and feel, but by the 4th green I was figuring it out and managed to finish the round with a par - bogey - par.

At that point I was seriously thinking about walking another 9, but I decided that would be akin to attempting a sequel to a good movie...rarely a good idea...
...Jaws 4, anyone?

Made the right decision and headed home...
Since it was indeed gorgeous summer weather, we decided to visit the Fenn Valley winery...
...where we channeled the good ol' days when we were first married...Karen enjoyed some Briarwood Blush and I quaffed some Capriccio.

They've done quite a bit at the winery since we last visited, with beautiful, welcoming landscaping and many outdoor sitting areas.

After that we stopped in to the Rosemont Inn...
...a favorite Bed and Breakfast, directly opposite what used to be a beach on Lake Michigan...
...but the waters have risen so much in the last few years, the beach is pretty much gone now...
...that's Karen standing at what used to be the water's edge.

It's still a beautiful view, of course...

...and our little trip down memory lane has just about convinced us to stay at the Rosemont again for our anniversary this September.

Some truly great times there.
The mega roof project is coming to an end...
...and they're putting the finishing touches on the trim and scuppers (where the water drains off the roof).

Still have one skylight to do over the master bathroom but they'll come back for that in a week or two.

Overall we're very pleased with the project; just wish it had been something fun like a pool instead of something functional like a roof.
Starting to hone in on my next writing project...
...haven't nailed down all the specifics yet, but right now it feels like a coming of age story centered on a couple of weeks in July of 1969.

That was such a pivotal year...transitioning out of the turbulent 60's, the moon landing, Chappaquiddick...seems like there's a story buried in there somewhere and I'm working on digging it out.

More to come...
But now it's another delightful summer day and I needs must embrace it while it's still today.

There are golf balls to be swatted, a farmer's market to terrorize, and if I'm not quick, outdoor work to be endured under the unyielding gaze of the fanatical ninja landscaper.
Time to find that hidey hole...

later, mcm fans...
