...is not quickly broken...from Ecclesiastes 4:12, and written in the context of the practical value of strong relationships.
I used it as a title for a short story I wrote many years ago, and fresh on the heels of the spectacular success of "Born Out Of Due Time" - it's possible I may be exaggerating - I've decided to "novella-tize" my short story.
Don't act like you're not excited...
More details coming soon to blog entry near you.
...but that ended around 5:30 this morning...lots of lightning, thunder and a torrential downpour for an hour.
Definitely needed it, but there's going to be some storm cleanup from this one.
Karen and I commented on how it reminded us of our first night in this house...a line of thunderstorms rolled through that woke us up and drenched the place.
Thankfully we've replaced the roof since then...
...and this time the rain stayed outside where it belongs.
She wanted the steps to have the appearance of age, as if they'd been there forever, so we used broken pieces of cement from our old patio that #4 son replaced a couple of years ago...
It was 61 years ago today that Arnold Palmer won the 1960 U.S. Open in the greatest comeback in that tournament's history...
...in 15th place and 7 strokes down, he shot a 65 on the final round for a 2 shot win over 20 year old Jack Nicklaus.
My dad was part of "Arnie's Army" as his legion of fans were known...generally blue collar types who embraced Palmer's working class upbringing and his "go for broke" approach to what was generally considered at that time an elitist game.
Arnie would eventually yield the spotlight to the kid he beat in 1960, but not his popularity.
With movie star good looks, he was equal parts work ethic, skill and attitude, and he inspired loyalty in his fans right up until his death at age 87 in 2016.
Here's to Arnold Palmer, one of golf's all time greats.

If you're quick about it, you might have just enough time to scurry through the parting shots department before I release the hounds...
