Some Dear Friends...

Herb and Sharon

...stopped by for a visit...and they're more than friends; Herb was my employer for almost 4 decades.

He accomplished many things during those years, not the least of which was maintaining an active and honest Christian witness in the often bruising world of business.

By God's grace, the good things my family and I enjoyed through the years sprang from my association with Herb and his company.

It was delightful to share some good wine...

...delicious food Karen prepared, and great conversation on a gorgeous summer afternoon.

There is progress on my grandson's home...

...in spite of how it may look.

They’re repairing / rebuilding walls and ceilings throughout his new place, and as with most things in life, it's a race against a deadline.

He may end up couch surfing for a night or three, but they're plowing through the tough stuff now and things should start coming together in the next couple of weeks.

Stay tuned.

Up in Larry's neck of the woods, life at the lake is a real struggle...

tough day on the docks for Mr. Squirrel

...as this chillaxing squirrel attests.

Thankfully it's not all toil and sweat...

...as he found time to Pit Boss for an RBOR racing friend (Larry, that is...not the squirrel).

A couple of very long days at the off road course, but at the end it's pizza and beer and gorgeous sunsets by the lake...

Not all bad.

Hickory golf was about the usual for me...

...except without the well dressed posse there to witness it.

Only managed 2 pars and 3 bogeys this outing.

The rest were the uglier second (and third) cousins of the bogey...you know, relatives you'd rather not admit are actually part of your family...

...but what are you going to do?

They're blood, so break me off a piece of that chaw...

...wouldja Cletus?

Lord willing, we’ll tee it up next week and try again.

It's that time, so everyone form a single line...

...and let's conga through the parting shots department, shall we?

recent downpour

a recent visitor to our local grocery store

we would have, had they been selling anything

After calm and careful consideration, I've concluded...

...it's definitely time to press the button.

We're starting August, and despite our very best efforts, summer is once again slipping away.

You know what that means...

...oh yeah...Summer's packing up and headed to the station...again.

Thankfully she's walking and it's gonna take a while, so A) do NOT give her a ride, and B) get crackin'! on the rest of your summer fun activities!

Won't be long before...

...well...you know.

Smoke On The Water...

...and fire in the sky...

...with apologies to Deep Purple.

Another view from Labor Day morning...

Starting to look and feel a whole lot like fall.

Speaking of Autumn, it's nearing that time of year again...

...yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

Meet willie, the newest member of our menagerie...

was he wearing my sandals??

...and here he is in action:

willie comes with a volume control, so he can be a lot louder, but I think "medium" will be about right.

I'll probably set him up in the rock garden...

...away from the door...we like to spookify not terrify the kids and he's probably our scariest prop to date.

We now return to our regularly scheduled font.

Life at the lake continues with serene sunrises...

...gorgeous waterfront vistas...

...and a new mouth to feed....

...meet Dale, Chip's skittish cousin.

Larry reports that unlike Chip, this guy takes awhile to screw up his courage, then dashes in...

...grabs the goods and hustles to his safe space to devour his treat.

Big fun.

To the links we go...

...and what I like about these "Goodman" classic era hickory golf balls is the improved distance.

Had a few chances to 1 putt for par since I'm consistently getting 30 yards more per club.

What I don't like is I still haven't figured out how to putt with these #@$%&!  things.

Didn't have quite as many 3 putt greens this week as before, but only snagged 1 par, and that was on the 7th hole par 3 when my niblick shot landed within a few feet of the cup.

Did manage a few bogeys along the way, but the rest were my usual double / triple / I’d-rather-not-talk-about-it bogeys.

there was a tourney just starting as I was finishing today so had to wait to tee off on 9...3 people and 2 carts...God forbid they should actually walk the round.

So the jury's still out on this one.

It was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed my stroll through the countryside as always, but I'm seriously considering going back to my gutta perchas.

When I'm using them I don't think about my score as much.

I figure if I'm anywhere near the same zip code as par that's a plus, so I tend to enjoy the round more.

Decisions, decisions...

And with that, kind reader, we draw the curtain on another excitin' adventure in blogging excellence.

For this week's effort rest assured we used only the finest raw materials, guaranteed to be free from all toxic waste matter...

…well, almost.

D-Day...

June 6th, 1944...never forget.

This is why...

...Michiganders love "up north"...that's a view from my friend Larry's cottage near the Traverse City area.

Love the mirror like reflection of the clouds in the water.

The lucky stiff is working remotely from there - for a while, anyway - and every so often he graces me with a pic or two...

...of life on the lake.

He actually gets paid to work from there...go figger...

Saw this scenario on our back patio this week...

hey...what's that?

don't see anyone around...

yep, coast is clear...

mmm...seafood sensations...

Who knew?  Blue Jays like cat food.

Got one half of our Redneck Riviera situated this weekend...

...with our inflatable hot tub...and this year we done gone and got ourselves a ga-ZEE-bo...insert excited "yee haw" here.

2nd half of our RR scheduled for early July when Mirage Pools installs our pool...it's been a 4 year wait on that so we're pretty excited.

Lately I've been on "mole patrol"...

before: that's part of a mole tunnel

...using my 13.5 lb compactor to flatten the network of mole tunnels criss crossing our yard...

after: flattened tunnel and hopefully dead moles

...they're busy little buggers and wielding my "stomper" has become a regular part of my "daily functional fitness" routine.

We've spread grub killer around, too.

This is war, but so far I haven't resorted to dynamite like Bill Murray in Caddyshack.

Just about time to close up shop here at the AMC...

...and as we go we leave you with these parting shots...

very windy day

back patio...love the huge oak tree canopy overhead

a co-worker shared this pic of a couple of foxes in his backyard
