Would You Take Driving Lessons...

It probably depends on what kind of driving we're talking about.

If it's this kind...

...then you bet.

There's a lot of hyperbole employed when it comes to Mr. W.

Much beloved by his devoted fans, he's often described as "the greatest golfer of all time".

That is objectively false; in the modern era Jack Nicklaus was better and has the stats to prove it.

Besides his unmatched record of 18 majors, he was the longest and most accurate player on the tour into his 40's.

Give today's equipment to the Golden Bear in his prime (1960’s, 1970’s) and he'd be driving the ball to the spot of his choosing the same as he did during his career - except it would be 400 yards away.

But Mr. W is obviously one of the best, and he was without dispute a transformative figure.

His youthful charge to the top of the world's ranking was breathtaking to watch, and he changed the way golfers trained.

Running for cardio, weightlifting for strength - an entire generation followed his lead to a more powerful and athletic game.

So learning today's game from him would be a rare privilege.

However, if you're talking about this kind of driving...

his parallel parking skills definitely need work

...well, you might wanna take a pass.

His most recent dustup with law is the latest in what's getting to be a long list of examples of very bad decision making.

Obviously impaired, he refused a urinalysis so it's unknown exactly what drugs were in his system.

But he did have a couple of hydrocodone pills in his pocket, so that's sort of a clue, hey?

In short, if TW doesn't make a serious change and soon, someone's going to get killed.

He spent the first 15 years of his career polishing his legend; the last 15 tarnishing it.

He doesn't need any more sympathy or coddling due to past accomplishments.

He needs to be held to account.

He's 50 now; old enough to know, do and be better.

So here's some friendly - and obvious - advice from a nobody to a golf $uperstar / billionaire:

Grow up and get help.

Before it's too late.

Happy (?) to report we are 29 days into our Vernal Equinox Death March (read: Spring diet)...

...with only 11 days to go until Freedom!  Sweet Freedom!

Unfortunately - and through no fault of my own - I seem to have stalled out at 195 lbs...about 5 lbs more than I should be.

There are some who might say it's because I occasionally add just a tiny bit of spice...

...to my otherwise bland fare of lentil soup and lima beans, but I say that's horse hockey.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go make sure Karen's not trying to steal any of my contraband lima beans.

The 3rd of the highly anticipated "No Brains" rallies took place Saturday, attracting only the best of humanity...

...as they banded together in joyful unity proclaiming the obvious:

There are brainless twits everywhere you look.

Here are the best and brightest of our local stars:

In this case "crowds" is a euphemism for "disaffected losers", but you get the idea.

Yeah!  No Kings!

But, uh, wasn't that really more of a Biden / democrat thing?

If Trump was a king, he wouldn't allow any No Kings protests, would he?

And wouldn't the DHS be fully funded with no government shutdown and no long lines at the airports due to TSA workers not being paid?

As king, Trump would just wave the wand and make whatever he wanted to happen, happen.

Right?

Well, that's ok, don't get your undersized cerebral cortex in a knot thinking about all those inconvenient facts and stuff.

To drum up support for their make-believe dress up day, some truly big name celebs joined in the fun:

The gray haired creature pointing her bony fingers is none other than Hanoi Jane, reminding us she's been an America hating traitor ever since 1972...

...when she fraternized with our enemies in North Vietnam, even posing on one of their gun boats that was used to kill American soldiers during that conflict.

The American Left:

Slim pickings in the 23 Skidoo department this week, so I say let's just skip it.

a hopeful sign of early spring

a less than hopeful sign - a mole, now deceased

the recent infestation of Aldi Gnomes continues, tucked amongst the flora within the Castle Frankenstein

Of course, it's rare for anyone to listen to, let alone do what I say.

This was a tough week.

As I've done for each of the past 4 years, I once again spent time missing my #2 son, contemplating his life, our time together here on earth and my failures as his father.

It's one thing to bandy about theological terms when contemplating lofty concepts of God and His creation.

But when you bring the ethereal down to where you actually live and put shoe leather on it - then it begs the intimidating question:

What do you believe?

When it's no longer pie in the sky in the sweet by and by -

When it becomes personal because it affects you right now, where you live -

What do you really believe?

I appreciate what Paul wrote to the believers in Rome when he was explaining salvation is based on faith, not on the law.

When speaking of Abraham, the father of the faithful, to whom God promised a son when Abraham was 100 years old and his wife Sarah was 99, Paul wrote this:

20  He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21  And being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able also to perform.

    Romans 4:20,21

When life lands a body blow, we don't let it stagger us in our faith.

We get up, dust ourselves off and get back in the race.

We're called to be strong, knowing God delivers on His promise of eternal life through faith in Christ.

We soldier on.

We're On Leave This Week...

...and taking a little break from the war.

Not a bad view, right?  Even if you're not a hickory golfer (my condolences)...

...you have to admit that's a glorious vista.

Where are we this week?

Lucky us, we're visiting the island of Maui and just about to tee off on the <Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course>  with nary a Shahed Drone nor F-35 Stealth jet in sight.

Should be a relaxing interlude before resuming the annihilation of the world's largest state sponsor of terror.

The Iranian regime, the Dems and their sycophants in the media may not approve, but guess what?

Enjoy your round.

I mentioned in passing Karen and I are on our annual spring diet...

...aka the Vernal Equinox Death March.

As usual the beginning isn't terrible, buoyed by enthusiasm for healthy eating habits and encouraged by the future vision of our summer bodies.

it's common practice to photograph successful dieters in silhouette to protect their identity from the envious masses (that's future me on the left)

And then there's the second day.

"What?" thinks I to myself in a sudden flash of belated insight.

"There are no donuts on this diet?

"No pastries, apple pie or yellow jellied kumquats?!"

Alas, grim reality crashed through the door of what passes for my consciousness and settled over me like a wet, heavy blanket.

man crushed by unkown weight

Or, yeah...maybe like that even.

It's then I arrived at the sinking realization there's nothing for it but to hunker down, grit one's teeth and do what I do best, think of myself endure.

If I may venture a helpful suggestion:

Run!  Save yourself!

It's too late for me...

By now it should be intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer we here at the AMC are alarmingly light on actual content today, so rather then prolong this living heck, let's 23 Skidoo:

that is one fat robin

Worst. Governor. Ever. (yes, even worse than Wretched Dimwitmer and that's saying something)

recent deluge, just before a day of 50mph winds

the only important thing here...

...is that they're comfortable (no idea who the unconscious carcass is)

If this is your first time visiting the Atomic Monster Cafe, our sincere apologies.

We're usually at least twice as entertaining and ever so witty, if we do say so ourselves...

...and we do, since someone needs to.

As for the rest of you...well, you've no one to blame but yourselves, do you?

It's like attending that big family get together...

...you know what you're in for but you go anyway.

Stop whining and learn to make better decisions.

On your way out the door, keep your hands where we can see them and please to consider some eternal truth from God's Word:

11  My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of His correction:

12  For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Goodbye Mr. T...

...it was a good ride...that's the picture Karen took of my last ride as I was driving back from having him serviced at Eclectic Motors a few days ago...was only in the 40's and very windy so I froze all 9 of my fingers on that little journey.
Here he is loaded onto the trailer and just about to pull out of the driveway for the trip east to the showroom.

Yes, it's possible it's a little bit early to bid Mr. T farewell, but my 1923 Model T truck is currently for sale at Grand Rapids Auto Gallery out by the airport...my contact there assures me he'll sell him in less than 60 days...says if nothing else there's a hot overseas market for them.

Guess we'll see...in the meantime here's a pic of us arriving at the new homestead back on July 2nd, 2017...

...and here are a few from the two years prior to that when I drove him around a bit closer to the Grand Rapids area...
he goes in the snow...
...but needed repair now and then...
...looked great just sitting there...
...or primed and ready for a jaunt around town...

Definitely going to miss him.
While we're on the subject of last things...
...this may very well have been the last fire of the season...
...because I hope - by all things decent and proper, for the love of chicken gravy, I hope - this is the LAST snow of the season...
...ENOUGH ALREADY!!

Ol' Man Winter has to be one of the rudest individuals I've ever had the displeasure to meet...he comes 'round every year but some years he lends new meaning to the unpleasantry of "overstaying your welcome"...
While Karen and I were out and about yesterday we stopped by the bookstore and grabbed a coffee...while we were there we saw a bargain bin of low priced movies so glanced at a few of the titles.

I was surprised to see 1996's megahit The English Patient there, a testament I suppose to the fleeting nature of praise and acclaim.
It was the biggest hit of 1996, though not in box office receipts.

Jerry Maguire starring Mr. Bizarro himself, Tom Cruise, takes that honor.

But TEP dominated the Oscars that year, getting nominations in 12 different categories and taking home the grand prize in 9 of them

(Of course, in keeping with the long standing tradition of incompetence at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, neither Ralph Fiennes nor Kristin Scott Thomas won the Oscar for Best Actor / Actress.)

This is an epic film in every way...running time (2:42), subject matter, the number of years it covers, the historical backdrop against which it unfolds, the method in which the story is told...
...but spoiler alert...it's a relationship flick - not a chick flick, a relationship flick - and it does not have a happily ever after, feel good ending.

I know some of  you just tuned out and I totally understand, but by so doing you're depriving yourself of experiencing some breathtaking scenery and fabulous acting...
This one is well worth your time.

But don't take my word for it...

No, wait...scratch that...do take my word for it.

On the diet front...

...I'm thrilled to report I've been stuck at 207 lbs for 5 days in a row now...perhaps that's my ideal weight?

Mr. Mirror is screaming otherwise...and to be honest, Mr. Mirror has become almost as much of a pain in the ass as Ol' Man Winter is...

...so it's been a tough few days, but planning to dust myself off, climb back in the saddle and keep plugging away at it this week...
