Another Gorgeous Morning...

teeing off on 6

...on the links.

Didn't do quite as well as last week, but managed to par #9 on the way out...a nice way to finish.

The rest of my round was the usual dust up with members of the infamous Bogey gang...

"'That you, Bogey?"    "No, it's me...Triple Bogey!"
[ cue ominous music ]

...but like so many things in life, hardly worth discussing.

I did find out they're closing the course for the season at the end of this month, so my (golfing) days are numbered.

However, that's no reason to panic...

...no...no, wait a minute here...I'm wrong.

That is in fact the perfect reason to panic.

It's gonna be a long winter.

Dementia Joe's handlers are very busy, but somewhere between bottle feedings and diaper changes, one of them must have looked at the calendar and realized an election's coming.

DJ’s poll numbers are almost as low as his IQ, and a driving factor is his illegal immigration problem  project.

And make no mistake, it has been a planned project from the get-go, the detrimental effects of which will be felt for generations.

But now even deep blue cesspools like New York and Chicago are complaining.

So...what to do?

With a backbone as strong as wet pasta, it's time to flip flop and steal Trump's ideas about securing the border.

adjective

  1. Arousing or deserving of scornful pity
  2. Pitifully inferior or inadequate
  3. Joe Biden

Speaking of the calendar, meteorological fall began September 1st, followed by astronomical fall when the autumnal equinox occurred on September 23rd...

...but the nuts and bolts version of Autumn didn't start until today:

That's when the rains blew in and temperatures dropped from the 80's during the middle of the week to the 40's this morning.

And according to Mr. Weatherman, we won't see 60 degrees for at least another 10 days or so.

Must be October in Michigan...

In the cognitive dissonance department, I do love a fire on a cold day; I just don't like cold days.

Go figger.

Just heard that Israel is under attack by Hamas, and a state of war now exists in the Middle East.

Here's One Of The Reasons...

teed off with my mid-iron today as my franken-brassie is still out for repair

...I love fall golf.  True, the colors aren't as vivid as they will be in a couple of weeks, but still a beautiful sight.

And in a rare display of semi-competence, I actually parred that 370 yard par 5.

Also this one...

...a 270 yard par 4, the right way: on in 2 and 2 putt for par.

But that was it; the rest was my usual foray into the wild, wacky, wonderful world of Bogey_land.

But hey...'twas another delightful morning on the links...

...I kept it in the fairways and finished with the same ball, so hafta count this one as a win.

Started our weekend with a get together:

Enjoyed some food and fellowship on a gorgeous last day of September.

Good friends, good food, good conversation...can't ask for much more than that.

And now October has arrived but ushered in this year with almost summer-like weather.

It's faking, of course...falling leaves, disappearing daylight and chill nights are all in our very near future...

...but we'll take the sunshine and warmth as long as we can get it.

And since it is October it's time to queue up some favorite movies of the season again, to wit...

great flick about the early days of the US vs Russia space race

truly scary silent movie ripoff of Dracula

a movie about the making of Nosferatu that asks the question, what if the star of the movie was a real vampire?

October's not complete without screening this 1931 classic

Mel Brooks' hilarious sendup of the Frankenstein movies

Too nice a day to sit at the keyboard blogging, so let's hustle through some parting shots and then get outside, shall we?

Happy Fall Y'all...make the most of this beautiful but fleeting season.

It's gonna be winter before you know it.

Happy Anniversary...

we're a house divided...she likes pink moscato, I like brut cuvee

...to us...18 happy years and counting!

As a parent, I naturally think of "18" as the span of time it takes to raise a child from birth through high school graduation.

When I think of the miraculous transformations embedded in that journey - from newborn to young adult - and all the activities involved - the sports, plays, concerts, proms, field trips and more - it seems like a lifetime.

And yet those years flew by in an eye blink, proving the old adage:

So it has been with our married life...filled with happiness and activity and many lovely memories, but for the life of me I don't know where those years went.

It seems like yesterday when we enthusiastically said "I do!", but the calendar - and the mirror - tells me that was almost 2 decades ago.

As Karen always says, we need to embrace each day, be present in each moment, and live our best lives together.

Words to live by.

And speaking of embracing the day...

sun was just coming up when I teed off...that's my driving iron, as I sent my Franken-brassie off for professional repair

...it was a gorgeous morning on the links, low 60's and lots of sunshine.

Sadly, the fabulous weather did not carry over to my game.

one of my few chances to "1 putt for par", all of which ended in a bogey(ish)

I was actually striking the ball pretty well from the tees and fairways, but my lousy short game did me in.

Was just short of the green on the 370 yard par 5, so I figured I'd just chip in for par:

Who could have guessed I figured wrong?

Even so, it was as I always hope it will be when I gather up the tools of my ignorance and tee up my guttys...

...a little solitude, a little exercise, and a delightful stroll through the countryside.

While we're on the subject...

No surprise there are hardly any courses left that are truly hickory / gutty friendly.

Constant improvement in equipment has stretched modern courses to almost twice the length they used to be when clubs were made of hickory wood and the best golf balls were made from the sap of gutta percha trees.

Luckily I've hit upon a solution for this problem;
I need to build my own hickory golf course.

To that end, I hired one of them per-fessional golf course maker guys and had him draw up formal plans for a life size version of my backyard wiffle golf ball course, to wit:

He does good work.

Turns out I'll need about 13 acres of mostly open, dry fields to accommodate my 5 greens / 9 hole course design.

The greens will have to be artificial turf done by professionals.

I'll also need one of those cool mowers you steer with dual hand levers instead of a steering wheel.

Might need a slightly faster version so I don't spend more time mowing fairways than I do golfing on them:

And it either needs to always rain enough to keep the fairways green, or else I'll have to put in some kind of commercial grade sprinkling system.

Did I mention I need to win the lottery to make this happen?

#1 son, if you're reading this, keep your eyes peeled for the right property.

Let's do that parting shots thing...
