The Exact Moment...

Trump inaugural speech, Jan 20 2025

...Slo-Joe realized he's no longer prez.

I'm sure it came as a shock to him; most things do.

Even finding out what day of the week it is surprises Dementia Joe.

"Monday?  Really?  Well I'll be a dog faced pony soldier..."

Interesting to see all those libs dressed to the nines welcoming "Hitler the Fascist Dictator and Threat To Democracy!!" back to Washington.

At least that's what they all screamed in the runup to the election.

You don't suppose they're so morally bankrupt they spewed lies...

...in a desperate attempt to retain power, do you?

Either way, we can rejoice the curtain has finally fallen on 4 tortuous years of constant deceit ("the border's secure!", "inflation is low!", "crime is down!") and abject incompetence.

With America finally back in good hands - Thank you, Lord - how about we move on to something apolitical for a change?

thought you might approve

Here's a fave mid century modern item:

That's an <Austin Cox> chess set from 1962.

These were originally made by the Alcoa Aluminum company and given as executive gifts in the early 1960's; over time they've become a collector's item.

Here's what the pieces look like when set up:

the board that goes with it is stored in a closet and I'm too lazy to retrieve it at the moment

They're obviously unique and really quite elegant.

Years ago I was a casual player but eventually realized I lacked the requisite temperament, time and let's be honest - IQ points - to excel at the game, so I gave it up.

former world champion, antisemite and bona fide looney tunes

True chess players are like musicians; they're born, not made.

Of course anyone can learn the moves, memorize openings, study strategy and end game tactics, and improve their game.

But the great ones have an inborn ability to visualize in a way regular folks do not.

They can play chess without the board or pieces; they see it in their minds and can analyze many moves ahead.

It's why so many of the legends of the game were masters even as children:

8 year old Samuel Reshevsky playing and beating masters in simultaneous games, circa 1920 in Poland

In spite of my lack of talent for the game, I've always admired the beauty and symmetry of a well made chess set, and appreciate the constrained energy its starting formation implies:

Two armies on the brink of chivalrous war, the pieces practically trembling with pent up anxiety, awaiting the call to action.

An interesting story revolving around the game of chess is <The Queen's Gambit>, a Netflix series from 2020.

Based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, this one won't enhance your moral IQ, but it is an interesting look at the passionately obsessive, emotionally violent, high pressure world of championship level chess.

Last "winter" (in quotes because 'twas hard to tell) I was outside swinging my hickories more than all previous winters combined.

Not so this year...winter has reasserted itself with a healthy dose of icy vigor:

driveway's been plowed 5x this week

snowy back yard

a rare evening when it wasn't snowing

the view from my "office" window one morning this week

no judging; we'll remove the Christmas lights when we're good and ready

It's definitely been a Michigan January, and it has me anxiously counting down the <days until Spring>.

It's a new day in America; President Trump hit the ground running with dozens of executive orders...

...reversing Biden's "America Last" policies, righting many wrongs, and making trips to disaster areas that were neglected by FEMA under the failed Biden administration.

His landslide victory indicates most of the people in the country are more than ready for a return to common sense and sanity.

But even some who consider themselves conservative Christians aren't happy with Trump because of his well documented issues with both language and behavior.

He's not perfect, that's for sure; no one is.

He's also not your pastor.

He's the President of the United States of America, charged with upholding the constitution and safeguarding the citizens of this country.

As such it's worth remembering:

Ultimately, it's God who is in control and Donald Trump's heart is in God's hand.

The LORD will use Trump to achieve His will, in His time.

Our job is to continually pray for him and all those in authority over us (I Timothy 2:1,2).

"What Men Call Peace...

...is the little time necessarily spent...reloading their guns."

I don't normally turn to 19th century agnostics for words of wisdom, but sometimes truth is where you find it.

And here we go again with the war drums; this time it's Russia invading Ukraine.

Fortunately we're blessed to have SloJoe and his highly trained associates at the helm during this international crisis.

In a recent one on one with an NBC lapdog, VP Harris was reminded that in spite of SloJoe's empty promises to "shut down the virus", covid was still very much alive and well.

Was a course correction needed?  Was it time?

In an awe inspiring display of brilliant analysis, Harris summoned the full measure of her impressive intellect, leaned in to her softball pitching faux adversary...

...and with a deadly serious look left us with this gem of a response:

"It is time for us to do what we have been doing.

"And that time is every day."

There you have it.  No wonder the secret service nickname for her is DeepThought.

Equally reassuring is our always relevant Climate Czar, John Kerry...

"Teresa still hasn't told me what all 57 varieties are..."

...whose one notable achievement in life has been marrying into the Heinz fortune.

Now - when he's not lounging around his wife's enormous mansion or sailing on her luxurious yacht - he spends his days crisscrossing the globe in a private jet, preaching about the evils of carbon emissions.

You might think this would make Lurch feel just a teeny bit guilty since, you know, he's personally responsible for a whole crap ton of carbon emissions, but not to worry.

While the covid so-called "vaccine" can't prevent you from getting or spreading the virus, the elites in this country have apparently found a real vaccine against self-awareness that's 100% effective.

Money, privilege, power perhaps?

Whatever it is, it definitely works.

And so, when the hot war began and images of exploding buildings and injured Ukrainians filled our TV screens...

...the obliviously self-assured Lurch sat down for an interview and gave us the full benefit of his timeless wisdom:

"I think hopefully, President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of … frozen land.  Now it’s thawing and his infrastructure is at risk, and the people of Russia are at risk.”

So it’s true...arrogance does make you stupid.

No doubt, right near the top of Vlad The Destroyer’s priority list, perhaps just a notch or two below "overrunning neighboring countries, controlling western europe and restoring Russia to its Soviet Union glory", is a deep and abiding concern for the climate.

And then there's the Walking Lie Factory, white house press secretary Jen Psaki.

A reporter reminded her that SloJoe remarked a week before, he knew Russia was going to invade Ukraine and nobody expected sanctions would stop him.

The reporter then asked the obvious question: in that case, what have you actually done ?

The woman who's giving redheads everywhere a bad name reached down, grasped the wooden handle of the starter cord, gave it a brisk tug and cranked up the propaganda machine.

"We've rallied world support," she blathered as yet another noxious cloud of lies filled the room, "and built a global coaliton!"

Ah, of course...a global coalition.

We're now in day four of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Maybe Jen should trot on over to Kyiv and conduct some "man on the street" - or more realistically, "man huddled in a bomb shelter" - interviews with terrified Ukrainians to assess how well her mythical coalition is working.

Lord, please help us.

In this most serious time, these are not serious people.

In 2020 America was energy independent, exporting our excess, and oil was $40 to $50 per barrel.

We're a little more than a year into the SloJoe Show, during which time he shut down the energy sector of this country, and we are now back to begging OPEC, China and Russia to sell us more oil.

Not surprisingly, the price of oil has risen to over $100 per barrel.

Our enemies have been enriched, strengthened and emboldened.

We have become poorer, battling runaway inflation and are reduced to pleading with China to help us deter Russia.

Predictably, they rebuffed our pathetic requests.

SloJoe's chickens are coming home to roost...

...and sadly, thousands, if not millions - here and abroad - will pay the price for his weakness, stupidity and incompetence.

In the meantime - here, anyway - life goes on, and one of the small blessings for which I'm thankful is this last weekend of February.

Finally slogging through the shortest / longest month in the year stirs hope for warmer days ahead.

The time change...

...St. Patrick's Day...

...and then glorious Spring...

life is better down that old dirt road

...all occur during the next three weeks.

In addition, Karen and I have made a stuttering start on bowling again (i.e., we've been twice)...

...with enjoyable if not spectacular results.

It's the plight of the serial beginner.

If we bowled regularly - once or twice a week - we'd develop muscle memory and endurance, and would probably see some improvement...but right now that's not going to happen.

Once summer rolls around and I'm taking Fridays off again, I may combine my golf outing with bowling on the way home.

Dad?  Is that you?

That's as long as we haven't gotten into a shooting war with Russia by then.

Enough already!  Time to actually do something instead of just bloviating on this blog.

I leave you with this happy thought:

Ryan's Memorial Stone...

...finally arrived...and I'm quite pleased with it.

They did a good job with both the text and his picture...

...and it's an appropriate way to honor his memory.

I like to spend a few quiet moments in the morning by his tree, thinking about his time on earth and giving thanks for his new life in heaven with his Lord and Savior.

Decent day on the links...

Managed 1 par and a few bogies, but didn't putt very well.

One of those bogies should definitely have been a par...

my 1 putt for birdie lie that turned into a bogey

...and I flubbed a couple of niblick shots around the greens as well.

my "chip in for par" lie that turned into a bogey

Even so I enjoyed the round.

Kept it in the fairways - well, mostly - and finished with the same ball, so really can't complain (too much).

2 putted for bogey on this one

Plus my one par was on the 9th hole...nice tee shot with my mashie left it 25 feet from the hole, then standard 2 putt for par...great way to finish my round.

The clown in chief...

...held another presser on his debacle in Afghanistan, and he opened the carefully scripted Q&A session by saying, "I've been instructed to call on this reporter..."

Wow.

By whom was His Fraudulency "instructed"?

China?  The Taliban?  The voices in his head?

Remember the Trump years when the press resembled a crazed pack of howling, slavering jackals...

...who couldn't wait to tear into their prey with "when did you stop beating your wife?" gotcha questions?

They were salivating at the thought of the sound byte moment starring the wonder of them!  to be played later that night on their propaganda channels.

Well forget all that...those press corp jackals appear to have undergone voluntary lobotomies...

...sitting silently like obedient 3rd graders in Sunday school, waiting their turn to respectfully recite their assigned "questions" to the doddering fool in front of them.

"We've instructed him to call on you first," some lucky faux-journalist is informed.

"And remember:  speak slowly and clearly, then sit down and remain quiet.

"Who knows?

"He might even be able to read the answer from his cheat sheet correctly."

As events in Afghanistan have clearly demonstrated, Biden is unfit to lead a finger painting class, much less the most powerful nation on earth.

May God have mercy on our country.

Talking about politics always makes me want to take a shower, but before I do...

...let's see what's shaking in the parting shot department, shall we?

I do dress better than the COVID zombie while I'm working here

recently visited a bed and breakfast we used to patronize in days gone by...relaxing by their koi pond

queen of all she surveys

early morning relaxation station

well would you look at that...we actually grew a cob of corn this year

There are so many problems in the world it's easy to be overwhelmed, so I leave you this week with some encouragement from God's Word:

Keep the faith, mcm fans...
